Professional Service Insight
The Ford 8700 and 9700 tractors are equipped with a "Square" 401 cu. in. engine. When performing an internal overhaul, ensure the top compression ring (Keystone type) is installed correctly to maintain sealing efficiency. The Dual Power system requires a precise system pressure of 150-185 psi for proper clutch engagement—leakage in this circuit can cause rapid clutch failure. When servicing the air conditioning, use only Ford Specification ESA-M99G50-A tape for insulating the outlet tubes. Absolute cleanliness is required when overhauling the steering motor, as the commutator and rotor are selectively fitted to extreme tolerances.
