Professional Service Insight
Before overhauling the front drive axle, ensure cleanliness of the workspace as the differential and planetary components involve high-precision tolerances. When setting the pinion shaft pre-load, use a pull scale to achieve precisely 1.05 lbs (0.48 kgf) while rotating with a cord. Differential ring gear nuts require 65 lb-ft of torque, and the pinion nut must be set to 285 lb-ft using Pinion Nut Spanner Tool No. 4776. For steering motor reassembly, the rotor and stator must be kept as a matched set; check rotor-to-stator clearance with a tapered feeler gauge to ensure it does not exceed .006 inches. Always purge air from the hydrostatic steering system by cycling from stop to stop until the reservoir oil is clear.
