General Precaution
Before servicing the hydrostatic transmission or any hydraulic component, be certain to clean thoroughly. Also, work in a clean area with clean tools. The greatest possible cleanliness is required to prevent dirt from entering the system, causing serious damage. When servicing the pumps or control valves, always install new seals and O-rings lubricated with petroleum jelly. When disconnecting the lines, immediately plug the lines and the transmission ports to prevent dirt from entering the system.
